D-Day: Forces in Normandy, 1944 (FW275) With Wayne Turner
It started with an Airborne assault, hitting vital defences behind the enemy lines. It was followed by a full-scale amphibious invasion on the beaches of Normandy. Operation Overlord was in full swing, with about 160,000 men crossing the English Channel to land on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day alone.

21. Panzerdivision (GEAB27)
The 21st Panzer Division is one of the more colourful divisions to fight in the Normandy Campaign. Descended from Rommel's legendary Afrika Korps, they would have attracted attention anyway. On top of this, their equipment was rather unique, featuring modified French tanks giving them a unique blend of mobility and firepower.

2nd Armored Division (USAB13)
The 2nd Armored Division was raised on 15 July 1940 under the command of Major General Charles L. Scott. Later that year Scott was promoted and com-mand of the division fell to one Brigadier General George S Patton. The division trained hard, prompting Patton to boast that the 2nd Armored Division would be ‘Hell on Wheels’ when it met the enemy. The nick name stuck.

Panzer Lehr Division (GEAB26)
The Panzer Lehr Division was created in late 1943 from the army’s Lehr, or demonstration, formations used to vali-date proposed structures and tactics. The battalions were gathered early in 1944 to begin training together. By the time it went into battle, Panzer Lehr was the best-equipped division ever fielded by the German Army.

7th Armored Division (BRAB16)
The 7th Armoured Division, the Desert Rats, established a name for themselves in the tough fight against Rommel's Afrikakorps in Egypt, Libya, and finally Tunisia. Having kicked the Axis out of Africa they went on to serve in Sicily and Italy before being pulled off the line to get ready for the invasion of France. These veteran troops were picked by General Montgomery because of their vast experience.
